We have a true passion for outdoors.

Hikingwool.com was started by outdoor enthusiasts for outdoor enthusiasts. We take great pride in testing our own products in the wilderness before we will put our name on them. Hikingwool also wants to keep prices as low as possible to afford the customers more time on the land they love.

Let's start at the beginning, 5 friends began an annual backpacking trip on Islands located in the Great Lakes. It started with a trip to Isle Royale, followed by a week long adventure on North Manitou Island and last year we traveled to Montana to visit Glacier National Park. Through it all we realized the value of Merino Wool as a premium clothing option when traveling miles on the trails.

In 2016, The Great Lakes Island Backpackers decided to find a way to provide a quality more affordable merino wool shirt to other outdoor enthusiasts like themselves.  On a warm July night they moved to start a company called Hiking Wool. The vision is to eventually provide a whole line of Backpacking gear at affordable rates for everyone, but we start with our Merino Wool Hiking Shirt.

GLIB will donate a portion of every merino wool shirt sold to the National Parks Service, because we believe the sustainability of those lands is important to understanding what beauty our great country contains.

Support for the National Parks

Our love of outdoors has driven us to develop a way to give back to the National Parks. As our company grows we plan on giving our clients the choice of National Park they would like proceeds to go to. The donation are sent to a General Account for Trail Maintenance, because trails are our passage into the beautiful untouched lands.
